9 Family-Friendly Activities in Monte Sereno

Whether you've recently moved into your Monte Sereno luxury home or you're shopping for one with Stilla Raissi, you're interested in the family-friendly activities in the Monte Sereno area. You want to find the perfect home in an ideal community that offers family-friendly fun.

Monte Sereno and its surrounding area offer natural beauty and your dream home. It also offers you a community passionate about families and enjoying life. When you choose Monte Sereno as your new home, be sure to enjoy these exciting  activities with your family:

Youth Science Institute

In the nearby town of Los Gatos, the Youth Science Institute takes advantage of the beautiful natural area around it to introduce children and their families to science. In the warmer months, the group offers a Science Safari program for children and their families.

Each week, the safari explores varying topics in science while exploring the local area. You and your family can discover physics in nature or arthropods if your children are into creepy crawlers.

During the summer holiday, the Youth Science Institute offers a science camp to keep your children engaged, teach them more about science, and help them enjoy their summer. The theme of the summer camp changes from week to week.

You can sign your child up for a single week or all of them, depending on your summer schedule. The summer science camp is divided up into age groups and welcomes children from pre-K to the sixth grade.

Fantasy of Lights

When the weather cools off and the holiday season kicks off, the Fantasy of Lights becomes the hottest ticket in town. Load your family and friends into the car to drive through an ocean of holiday lights most evenings in December.

For more than 20 years, the Fantasy of Lights has enchanted children and adults of all ages. On your drive through the holiday lights, you can listen to holiday music on the radio.

You'll find more than 50 themed displays and a 90-foot holiday tree aglow with stunning lights. Past displays have included Santa Claus shooting basketballs and volcanoes in a dinosaur den. Your kids will burst with excitement when they catch sight of the pen full of festive penguins.

You can order your tickets online, and you pay by the carload and not by the person, so it's a great family activity. Presented by the Santa Clara County Department of Parks and Recreation, Fantasy of Lights is a popular activity in the Monte Sereno area and beyond, so order your tickets early.

Music in the Park

Since 1998, each summer, the nearby town of Los Gatos has hosted the Music in the Park summer series for you and your family to enjoy. The Music in the Park program begins on Sunday afternoons during the summer at 7:00 p.m.

You can bring your lawn chairs or a big blanket for the entire family and enjoy music from a variety of genres. You'll find a family-friendly atmosphere as well as outstanding musical acts.

As it draws closer to the summer season, you can view the upcoming musical acts on the website to choose the concerts you don't want to miss. You'll find plenty of public parking close to the event for your convenience.

Sanborn County Park

When the weather is nice, Sanborn County Park is a great place to enjoy the beauty of nature with your entire family. With towering redwood trees and charming woodland creatures, the park is a great spot for an afternoon hike or a night of camping.

The park offers more than 22 miles of hiking trails with varying levels of difficulty. One of the most beautiful and easily navigated trails is the Lake Ranch Trail, which offers plenty of sunshades on a hot day.

At Sanborn County Park, there's a one-mile nature trail where families can introduce young children to the beauty of the natural world. Along this nature trail, you'll find many examples of local flora and fauna along with the native birds and little critters.

Throughout the year, you and your family can head to the park for a picnic in the 40-acre day-use area. You'll find picnic tables and stunning views of the Santa Cruz Mountains.

During the summer months, you can introduce the classics to your children when the Silicon Valley Shakespeare group offers its outdoor plays. It’s the perfect activity for the whole family.

Fremont Older Open Space Preserve

Grab your bike or put on some comfy shoes and go to Fremont Older Open Space Preserve for an afternoon of biking or hiking. Your family dog can even hike with you on the trails in this preserve, but they have to stay on a leash.

Some of the trails are open to horse riders. The two most popular trails are the Seven Springs Loop and Maisie's Peak, and they're great options for families with children who are a little older than toddlers. From Hunter's Point, you can enjoy amazing views of the preserve and city in the distance.

From meandering hay fields to trails shaded by oak trees, the preserve is a treasure trove of the natural world. During your hike, you might see a wild turkey, and you'll definitely see a sea of local flora and fauna.

Montalvo Center for the Arts

A quick drive from Monte Sereno, the Montalvo Center for the Arts offers a variety of events centered on the arts, from music concerts to painting classes. Throughout the year, there's always something going on, although not every activity is family-friendly.

This arts center is located on a 175-acre estate, and visitors are always welcome to enjoy the outdoor area. They encourage families to bring a picnic basket and blanket to dine al fresco on the lawn. There are various hiking paths on the property, so you can always stretch your legs after your picnic.

In addition to the hiking trails, there is a large garden on the property. You can make your trip during the spring to see all the flowers in bloom and a rainbow of colors.

You can take a tour of the main home, Villa Montalvo, or explore the grounds, including the home of the artist in residence. You'll find artwork in all genres spread out through the indoor and outdoor spaces. There's also plenty of parking space for the public.

Yung See San Fong House

You don't see many homes with a pagoda roof run by the National Park Services, but the Yung See San Fong House is truly unique. This home was originally built in 1917. The name of the home translates to "Young's Home in the Heart of the Hills."

It's a unique home that was used by Ruth Comfort Mitchell Young and her husband. Young was a famous writer and poet while her husband was popular in local politics during their day.

Inside the home, you'll find a western layout along with Asian decorations. It's a unique home with a rich history. You and your family will enjoy a visit to the home and its surrounding area.

Lexington Reservoir County Park

In the warmer months, Lexington Reservoir County Park is a hotspot for boating and fishing. This 950-acre park includes a man-made reservoir where you and your family can cast your lines from the shoreline.

The Bay Area Ridge Trail is one of the hiking trails in the park, and it connects this park to others, making the opportunity for outdoor exploration larger for a family that enjoys hiking. The park has a designated picnic area, so you can pack a lunch and make a day of it.

Inside the park, you'll find a boat launch. However, you're only allowed to use non-motorized watercraft on the lake. You can use a kayak, canoe, and other types of watercraft to explore the park and its natural beauty from the water.

When you move into your luxury home in Monte Sereno, it's natural that you'd want to learn more about the history of the area. The New Museum of Los Gatos is a great place to start.

This local museum offers a combination of permanent collections and temporary exhibits that feature both local history and fine art. The museum provides the best of both worlds in one easily navigable package.

Many of the exhibits feature artifacts that will enchant your children by showing them life from a bygone era and the artwork of local artists throughout the years. Each year, the New Museum of Los Gatos (NUMU) holds the ArtNow contest, where they jury the best artwork created by students at the local high schools.
